Avant Law in the News: ACORN and Heron Gate residents rally to delay eviction

by Avant Law on November 20, 2015

ACORN has been fighting hard for years to defend the rights of Ottawa’s low and middle income residents. So four years ago, I joined them by offering pro bono representation for ACORN members in the Landlord and Tenant Board as a part of an initiative by the University of Ottawa Law School’s Social Justice Caucus. And yesterday I joined them again for a rally in the Herongate Community of South Ottawa, where corporate Landlord Timbercreek has issued dozens of eviction notices to tenants of affordable housing units in order to demolish and redevelop the area. I was interviewed briefly for this CTV news piece.
