Disability Rights

Avant Law, PC believes that disability results from environmental barriers that disable some, but not others, because of their unique physical or mental characteristics. Disability is a creation of our environment and not a medical condition. Removing those barriers, be they physical or social, is key to disability rights.

Around 13% of Canadians aged 15 to 64 are deemed to be disabled. Your rights under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Human Rights Code do not change whether disability has been caused through natural causes or a tragic accident, or whether it is physical or mental. The legal definition of disability is broad. Any medical condition that causes difficulties speaking, walking, hearing, or performing personal tasks can all be considered disabilities.

If you are confronted by disability-related boundaries at work or play, do not be discouraged. You deserve to be accommodated for your disability, as well as given all opportunities afforded to people without disabilities. Avant Law, PC is happy to lend our expertise to getting you the compassion, compensation and care that is your legal right.
